Switzerland, for the fifth time, took over the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Switzerland will chair in the period from 18th November 2009 to 11th May 2009. Priorities of the Swiss chairmanship will focus on: (1) Ensuring the protection of human rights and the rule of law, (2) Strengthening democratic institutions, and (3) Increasing the COE’s efficiency and transparency. Association of NGOs in Southeast Europe – CIVIS is co-organizer of the summer school of democracy with the topic “Is it possible to have an identity without hate and intolerance?“ which Civic Committee for Human Rights from Zagreb organizes from October 3-6, in the island Brac (Croatia). Read more

CIVIS International Secretary General, Mrs. Mirjana Prljevic held a lecture at the 9th Annual Summer Visiting Session of Students Research Centre "Baltic Practice", which was organized on 1-9 August 2009 in Bruges, Belgium, with the help of Higher School of Economics (Moscow). Read more

new Law on Associations was adopted in the Republic of Serbia. The Law is in compliance with the principles and standards of the European convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms which was the obligation of the Republic of Serbia since its accession to the Council of Europe. The Law could be downloaded here.

27. April 2009.
The association CIVIS will host the Italian cooperatives “Pro Rest s.r.l” and the “Cooperative Beni Culturalu COO. BE.C.”, from Spoleto. During the 2-day long visit, on the 28th and the 29th of April, the Italian partners will visit Niš and the site Mediana, Central Institute for Conservation in Belgrade, the Historical Museum of Serbia, as well as the Ministry of Culture. The spring session of the Conference of International Non-governmental Organizations of the Council of Europe will take place next week from the 27th to the 30th of April 2009. On our site, you can have a look on a detailed agenda of the session of the Committee of the Conference. The association CIVIS will be represented at the Conference of International Non-governmental Organizations by Ms. Mirjana Prljević, the International Secretary General of CIVIS.

14. March 2009.
The association CIVIS signed a memorandum with two Italian cooperatives "Pro. Rest s.r.l." and "Kooperativa Beni Kulturalu COO.BE.C." in Spoleto, Italy. These Italian cooperatives are leaders in the field of restoration and conservation of the monuments in Italy. They are interested in jointly projects of restoration and reconstruction of the monuments on the territory of ex-Yugoslavia.

23. January 2009.
The first year-to-date session of the Conference of International Non-governmental Organizations of the Council of Europe will take place the next week, from the 26th to 29th of January 2009, in Strasbourg. The aim of the session is to elect the president and three vice-presidents of the Conference that will in the next three years lead the civil sector represented in the Council of Europe. The association CIVIS will be represented by Ms Bojana Popović, Secretary General of CIVIS.
