CIVIC COMMITTEE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND ASSOCIATION OF NGOS
IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE – CIVIS ORGANIZE SUMMER SCHOOL OF DEMOCRACY
More than 35 youth participants and 40 representatives of NGOs and Academia from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro will gather on the island of Brač (Croatia) in order to understand better dangerous tendencies in societies, such as racism and chauvinism, and to anticipate them in the future together with NGOs and prominent politicians from the region.
The main idea of the School is to bring out and elaborate between lecturers and participants the possible sources of that malicious form of identity which always has hate and intolerance, in their various social, cultural and economical shapes, for its consequences. Once the origin of certain identity is understood it is easier to be resistant to its negative effects, abuse and instrumentalisation that often lead towards many irrational conflicts.
Possible consequences of cherishing identity based on intolerance will be discussed as well as existing and proposed legal mechanisms that could be used and developed to oppose to such an evolution. Possible governmental and nongovernmental policies in that respect will be also discussed.
