ASSOCIATION CIVIS HAS PARTICIPATED AT INTERNATIONAL 
EXPERT ROUNDTABLE, ORGANIZED BY ECPD

Association CIVIS has participated at international expert roundtable “Mass media as an important factor in establishing interethnic and religious tolerance, understanding and cooperation in the Balkans”. The round table was organized by European Center for Peace and Development of the University for Peace established by the United Nations on November 3rd 2009 in Belgrade.

On behalf of Association CIVIS Mirjana Prljevic, International Secretary General of the association, participated as a commentator on the third session “A view from the religious and ethnic communities” and Bojana Popovic, Secretary General participated as a panelist on the fourth session “A view from the expert, the government and the NGO sector”.

Aware of the influence that media has on public in the process of building public opinion toward religious communities and churches in the Balkans, our aim is to emphasize the role of non-governmental organizations as a mediator in this process and as a side that whishes to point out the contribution of churches and religious communities in peace building, in rebuilding inter-religious tolerance, mutual trust and respect in the countries of Southeast Europe.
