PROMOTION OF THE REPORT OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE GROUP OF EMINENT PERSONS “LIVING TOGETHER: COMBINING DIVERSITY AND FREEDOM IN 21ST CENTURY EUROPE”

Promotion of the report of the Council of Europe group of eminent persons “Living Together: Combining Diversity And Freedom In 21st Century Europe”, within the project Living with diversity and benefit from it, will be held in Novi Sad on 21 June 2013.

Within the Project “Living With Diversity and Benefit from It’’,  Association of Non-Governmental Organizations of Southeast Europe – CIVIS in cooperation with the Higher School of Professional Business Studies in Novi Sad is organizing promotion of the Report of the Council of Europe Group of Eminent Persons “Living Together: Combining Diversity and Freedom in 21st century Europe”. The project overall goal is raising awareness among young people about respect and protection of human rights and freedoms,  diversities and challenges which our society is facing with. The project is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Belgrade and the Council of Europe gave us the right for printing the second print run of the publication.

Necessity of discussion in our society about the subject of diversity and freedoms in Europe in 21st century led us to the conclusion that it would be useful and important to present this report to students and academic citizens in relation with adopting the culture of human rights, and to present good practice examples. In this way, students will have an opportunity to hear other and different opinions about current issues such as growing intolerance, strengthening support to populist parties which spread xenophobia, discrimination, presence of population which practically has no rights, parallel societies, Islamic extremism, loss of democratic freedoms, possible conflict between “religion rights’’ and freedom of expression, who are the leading actors of changes, proposals for “living together”.
