TRAININGS WITHIN THE PROJECT MEET HUMAN RIGHTS FOR BETTER FUTURE WERE HELD IN PARAĆIN AND JAGODINA

Within the project Meet Human Rights for Better Future the remaining two trainings were held in the Paraćin Municipality on 18 May and in Jagodina on 19 May.

In the Paraćin Municipality the training was held in the Elementary School „Stevan Jakovljević“ and in Jagodina in the Elementary School „Rada Miljković“. Pupils who are active in School Parliaments attended trainings, as well as School Principals, teachers and psychologists. Pupils will continue to work on these subjects within their School Parliaments work and common actions.

This type of non-formal education this year attended around 160 pupils of seventh and eighth grades, teachers, representatives of the Youth Offices, from around 30 schools from Šumadija and Pomoravlje District (Kragujevac, Rača Municipality, Aranđelovac Municipality, Paraćin Municipality and Jagodina), who found out more about right to life, right to privacy, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, right to health protection, right to education; explanations and discussions about what are prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination and how they could lead to violence. It is shown that these topics are very current for pupils, applicable and purposeful, and that workshops are very useful especially in violence prevention.

The project was supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Belgrade, and the Council of Europe donated materials for work. Also the Regional Economic Development Agency for Šumadija and Pomoravlje, the Centre for Professional Development of Education Personnel Kragujevac, the Rača Municipality supported it. CIVIS Association had very good cooperation with schools which were hosts and ceded premises for trainings.

CIVIS Association will strive to spread this project in other territories in Serbia and region since huge interest and need for this kind of non-formal education exist regarding this very important topic, as well as for great evaluations we received from participants.
