INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN STRASBOURG
DEALING WITH A PAST LEFT UNSAID – CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR INSTITUTIONS AND CIVIL SOCIETY ACTORS
Under the PEACE Project – Peace Education and Active Citizenship in Europe, International Conference with the title Dealing with a Past Left Unsaid – Challenges and Opportunities for Institutions and Civil Society Actors, was held in Strasbourg, 21–23rd November 2011.
CIVIS participated at the Conference which was organized by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies – ALDA (France), the Local Democracy Agency Sisak (Croatia), the Mémorial Cité de l’Histoire Caen-Normandie (France), the Institute for National History (Macedonia), The Junction – Towards Healing and Understanding (Northern Ireland), the Jasenovac Memorial Site (Croatia), the Association 4704 (Italy) and Pays Vichy-Auvergne (France) as well.
The overall goal of the PEACE project is to create a network of structures that will work on peace education, human rights and citizenship referring to the XX century European history which can be used as a solid tool for active remembrance. Overall topic of this Conference was an active remembrance as well as new insights on how to deal with difficult events in the past.
The Conference gathered around 80 participants from certain European countries, who are mainly historical education and active remembrance professionals. Great experience exchange was made during the Conference’s discussion which is so valuable for professionals and volunteers as well who deal with historical education.
