ASSOCIATION CIVIS PARTICIPATES AT THE CONFERENCE
ABOUT WESTERN BALKANS AT DIJON

The third time the Association Bourgogne Balkan Express organizes a conference with the objective of presenting to the French and European political elite, as well as to the broader public, the challenges and potential of the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans. On May 10th and 11th 2010 in Dijon, France, a conference "Accession of the Western Balkans to the European Union, evaluating a process" is taking place.

The aim of this conference is to incite a fructuous debate between European and Balkans officials, as well as the representatives of the civil and economic sector, about the results that the Western Balkan countries have achieved so far in the field of European integration. They will also discuss the obstacles that slow down these processes and the things that should be done by the European Union in order to get ready for the new enlargement.

This event will gather representatives of European Union, among them director of the DG Enlargement Mr. Pierre Mirel, EP Parliamentarians  Arnaud Danjean, Doris Pack, Eduard Kukan and Tanja Fajon as well as officials of the Governments from the Western Balkans countries. On behalf of Association CIVIS, Ms Mirjana Prljevic, International Secretary General of the association will participate. Ms Prljevic will take part in the round table "Economic actors and the process of accession" and as a chair will present to the rest of participants her view of the CEFTA agreement, with a particular analysis about the efficiency of this agreement and the role it can play in the European integration of the Western Balkans. She will also analyse the current state of the business in the Balkans, as well as the possibility of reinforced synergy between the companies from the region that would be beneficial for their preparation for the concurrence that is waiting for them in the European Union.

Conclusions and solutions offered by all participants will be published in a publication that will be available at the website of the European Commission. This publication will serve as a guide to the representatives of the European institutions that are interested in the Balkans.
